At The Giving Genie, our Education Program is a cornerstone of our mission to uplift marginalized communities in Mozambique. Driven by a deep commitment to empowering young women and youth, we focus on providing ongoing education and accessible resources that foster better livelihoods and sustainable futures.

By providing targeted educational support and resources, The Giving Genie’s Education Program aims to maximize the return on investment for both the individual and the community. Through TAP, we are committed to empowering individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to drive positive change and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Education Program

Education Program

  • The TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) Project is a beacon of hope for many, offering essential tuition assistance primarily to women. Through TAP, we emphasize vocational education, entrepreneurship, and business skills, equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to build thriving futures for themselves and their families. Our approach ensures that the skills gained are not only aligned with personal and career goals but are also beneficial to the broader community.

  • The TAP is designed to provide support for eligible young women and youth seeking self-improvement through vocational training and standardized qualifying exams offered by accredited institutions. Participation in TAP is a privilege, not a right, and is governed by a grant established and administered by The Giving Genie. The grant amount may vary and will determine the level of participation available.

  • To apply for TAP, candidates must complete and submit the Tuition Assistance Application form, which requires signatures from both the applicant and the training institution. The Giving Genie will authorize tuition assistance reimbursements for two semesters upon receipt of the duly signed forms. Applicants must secure TAP approval from their training institution for consecutive semesters to continue receiving support.

  • Applicants are provided with a detailed academic plan and must ensure that their courses align with this plan. The TAP grant covers tuition for courses specified in the academic plan and requires applicants to maintain a minimum term GPA—2.0 for CV3, 2.5 for CV4, and 3.0 for CV5. Only courses listed on the academic plan are eligible for funding, and applicants must complete all attempted courses each semester.

  • The effectiveness of the TAP Project is evaluated through several key metrics:

    • Assessment Criteria: Beneficiaries are required to maintain specific GPAs based on their vocational level and must complete all courses attempted each semester.

    • Knowledge Retention: We test knowledge retention over time to ensure the skills learned are being effectively applied.

    • Behavioral and Attitudinal Assessment: We assess individual selections of vocation and the achievement of identified goals, with 70% of beneficiaries being women and 30% men.

The Genie Corps Emergency Response Program (GCERP) is a transformative initiative dedicated to empowering youth to enhance community resilience, safeguard lives, and build safer, more prepared communities. Through comprehensive training in disaster preparedness and emergency medical response, GCERP equips participants with the confidence and skills needed to manage real-life crises effectively.

About GCERP

GCERP envisions a future where individuals are well-prepared to handle emergencies, reducing physical injuries and fatalities during crises. Our program covers a broad spectrum of emergency management topics, including disaster management, epidemic response, and integrated emergency systems. Participants engage in realistic training scenarios involving ambulance services and other critical emergency components, providing invaluable hands-on learning experiences.

Program Vision and Impact

Training and Certification

In July 2024, beneficiaries from Instituto Industrial e Comercial Estrela do Mar completed the inaugural GCERP training and obtained the "Resposta a Emergência" certification, valid for two years. This certification is endorsed by ANEP (the National Professional Education Authority), ensuring adherence to Mozambique’s professional education standards. The program includes intensive training on a variety of essential skills:

  • Disaster Management

  • Epidemic Management

  • Integrated Emergency Systems

  • Victim Examination

  • START Method

  • Basic Life Support

  • Hemorrhage Control

  • Hypovolemic Shock

  • Skin Injuries

  • Fractures

  • Medical Emergencies

  • Intoxications

  • Airway Obstruction

  • Combustion Phenomenology

  • Fire Types and Extinguishing Methods

  • Emergency Evacuation

  • Construction Regulations

  • Fire Prevention

  • Security Organization

  • Fire Extinguisher Drills and Simulations

  • Recognizing the pivotal role of women in emergency decision-making and policy development, GCERP places a strong emphasis on empowering women with life-saving skills. Currently, 70% of our program beneficiaries are women, reflecting our commitment to promoting gender equality and strengthening the role of women in emergency management.

  • GCERP supports 'The Giving Genie Tuition Assistance Program' by providing equal access to training opportunities. The program is designed to offer essential emergency response skills to school students and young adults, transforming the landscape of disaster preparedness in Mozambique.

  • We proudly partner with Grupo T4S through Centro de Formação Profissional T4S Parques, Lda. (CFP T4S P) to conduct on-site "GCERP Resposta a Emergência" certification training. T4S is accredited by ANEP and the Emergency Medical Services of Mozambique (SEMMO), ensuring high-quality training that meets national and international standards. T4S is also affiliated with the NFPA® - National Fire Protection Association, providing access to the latest global resources and standards in safety and emergency response.

  • Disasters, whether natural or man-made, can overwhelm a community's emergency response capabilities, leading to increased human morbidity, mortality, and economic costs. In Mozambique, access to basic first aid and emergency training is limited, particularly in disaster zones. GCERP aims to address this gap by equipping individuals with essential skills for managing emergencies effectively.

  • The GCERP curriculum consists of a rigorous 4-day program that combines theoretical sessions with practical exercises. Participants learn to develop emergency preparedness and communication plans, drawing insights from past disasters and humanitarian efforts. The training covers essential skills such as START triage, hands-only CPR, spinal precautions for moving injured victims, basic first-aid essentials, and fire protection strategies.

  • Upon successful completion of the training and final exam, participants receive accreditation from ANEP, validating their readiness for emergencies. The certification, valid for two years, integrates First Aid, Disaster Management, and Firefighting into a comprehensive Emergency Response certificate, totaling 16 hours of training.
