  • Origins: Semana do Bebê started in 1999 in Canela, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with the aim of improving early childhood care and family support.

  • Global Reach: In 2010, UNICEF standardized the methodology across Brazil. The initiative expanded with InterCement bringing it to 17 Brazilian cities by 2013. Internationally, it began in Cabo Verde (2017) and Paraguay (2018).

Mozambique Involvement: Mozambique's first Semana do Bebê event was held in Fábrica da Matola in 2019, followed by editions in 2021 and 2022. The 2023 event marked its debut in Dondo, Mozambique.
